While teaching Physical and Health Education for 8 years I dabbled in a number of sports and thought I had found my calling playing Netball (I know only Aussies and Kiwis may understand what this is!) It was a winter sport but needed something to keep me fit during the summer. My cousin Wesley introduced me to Triathlon and I loved it! I wasn’t any good at it back then but just loved the challenge and camaraderie with everyone involved. After a few short course adventures I caught the Ironman bug and after a successful disastrous trip to Kona, followed it up a year later with a successful one and a 3rd place finish in my age group. Mission accomplished, and I was done with Ironman racing! So I thought!
I found out my performance was good enough for a Pro License and after a bit of research to understand exactly was this meant I thought why not!!!
That was nearly 8 years ago now and since then for the last 5 years I have quit my teaching job and split my time each year spending 6 months in my home of Perth, Western Australia and 6 months in Boise, Idaho!
It has been an incredible adventure with it’s ups and downs, injuries and championship races. But with 3 x Ironman titles (Ironman Western Australia 2010, Ironman Korea 2011 and most recently Ironman Louisville 2013) I would not change a thing and can’t wait for 2014 to be the best year yet!!
